Key takeaways
- In the Depop app you can add up to four photos and one video. Listing on Depop.com allows up to eight photos.
- Depop removes listings that use stock images. Only use photos you took yourself.
- Depop doesn’t officially specify a pixel size, aspect ratio, file size or file format in the help pages we checked.
- Include photos of faults, labels and tags so buyers can check condition and authenticity.
Depop’s rules focus on honesty rather than technical specs. The one number that changes how you plan a listing is the photo limit, and it depends on where you list.

Depop’s stock-photo rule
Depop asks that all photos in your shop are original and not lifted from an online source. Its reasoning: a stock image of your item is potentially misleading, and the photo belongs to whoever took it. The short version is in Selling on Depop: always use original photos, or your listing will be removed.
- Use photos that accurately represent the item
- Describe faults and include photos of them
- Include photos of labels and tags to support authenticity
Does Depop need a white background?
No. Depop doesn’t specify a background in the help pages we checked. Its rules are about original photos that show the real item, its faults and its labels. That leaves your Depop background up to you. A white background for Depop works if you want a clean, consistent shop grid; a plain colored wall or floor does the same job. What matters is that every photo in a listing still shows the actual item accurately.
Making four photos count
With four photo slots in the app, every shot needs a job. A practical set for a garment is the full front, the back, the label, and the most important detail or flaw. If an item needs more, list it on Depop.com, where you get eight. Drafts sync between the app and web, so you can start in one and finish in the other.
How Photolister handles Depop photos
- Photolister edits photos you took, so the result is still an original photo of your item, not a stock image
- Paid photo packs include a Depop export preset at 1280 × 1280 JPG. That’s Photolister’s square default, not a Depop requirement, because Depop doesn’t publish one
- Consistent framing and backgrounds make a Depop shop grid look curated
- Keep fault and label photos true to the item. If an edit changes a flaw, use the original for that shot
